After riding the bubble for several weeks, Masconomet enters our top 10 due to the departure of Danvers. Check out the Power Rankings for Week 7 >>
HockeyBarn.com Week 8 Massachusetts Division II HS Hockey Power Rankings:
RANK: TEAM NAME: LAST WEEK: RECORD:
#1 Wilmington 1 14-0-0
HERE'S WHY: To the victor go the spoils. Wilmington has been unstoppable this season and continues to dominate. Can Newburyport tarnish Wilmington's undefeated season on Saturday?
#2 Nauset 2 12-2-1
HERE'S WHY: Nauset took on the town of Plymouth in Week 8 and won decisively, defeating Plymouth South 5-1 and Plymouth North 5-2. Dean and Troy Niezgoda lead the league in scoring.
#3 Franklin 3 11-2-1
HERE'S WHY: Franklin has only given up 3 goals in its last 4 games. That's a .75 GAA for those who don't care for arithmetic. During that stretch they've managed to net 18 of their own.
#4 Winthrop 4 12-1-2
HERE'S WHY: Winthrop has 66 goals on the season and Peabody has 63, so we'd like to know more about why neither team was able to score last Saturday?
#5 Newburyport 8 11-3-1
HERE'S WHY: Coach Yameen's team is making moves at just the right time in the season. Nice 2-1 win over Masco on Saturday.
#6 Peabody 7 11-2-1
HERE'S WHY: Peabody's offense went from 0 to 60 in one game this week; they couldn't buy a goal against Winthrop, then put up 7 against Danvers.
#7 Plymouth South 6 9-2-1
HERE'S WHY: A 5-1 loss to Nauset doesn't help South's confidence heading into February. Tom Colbert should help to keep the scoring going.
#8 Tewksbury 5 10-3-1
HERE'S WHY: Games have been tight for Tewksbury over the last two weeks. Their schedule doesn't let up the rest of the season.
#9 Canton 9 10-2-1
HERE'S WHY: Canton sports a great record. They are closely trailed by Oliver Ames in the Hockomock standings. Look to Kevin Rooney as the offensive leader.
#10 Masconomet N/R 10-5-1
HERE'S WHY: Masco had a tough week, but kept its games against Wilmington and Newburyport competitive. They can skate with anyone, but need to prove that they can beat the top teams before moving up.
On the bubble: Danvers
